Obama Debt Limit Increase: “We are Not a Deadbeat Nation”

Obama is, yet again, demonizing Republicans for not approving an increase in the debt limit, as he paints the interminable picture of a worldwide economic catastrophe. Simply put, he wants to keep spending taxpayer dollars without consequence, while claiming a U.S. default will lead to economic apocalypse.

Make note, he doesn’t mention the fiscal apocalypse that will ensue if the U.S. government does not halt its spendthrift nature.

And the president sought to frame the risks of default in stark terms. He warned markets would go “haywire” if Congress would not act; Obama said that interest rates would rise, and checks to Social Security beneficiaries and military veterans would cease.

“The issue here is whether or not America pays its bills,” Obama said Monday at a press conference. “We are not a deadbeat nation.”

I agree, we are not a deadbeat nation. Americans work more hours than virtually all of Europe, and countless other nations. However, we are a deadbeat government, and that’s what Obama is referring to. We reward laziness with billions of dollars in welfare, while we refuse to pay our bills, because of Congress’ and the White House’s unyielding desire to recompense their insatiable constituents.
