Mitt Romney’s “Obama Isn’t Working” Banner Stirs Controversy

Mitt Romney is catching heat for a new campaign backdrop he is using.  It reads, “Obama isn’t working.”  Evidently, according to some media types, Romney is indicating that black people don’t work — none of them.

Seems like a stretch.

The slogan is a multiple entendre, but one of those entendres, intentionally or not, is evocative of a nasty racial stereotype about black men.

I hate to dog on Mediaite, because they bust their butts producing some damn good videos.  But I can’t brush past this.

First of all, it’s pretty obvious who Romney is referring to.  Because it says it in the headline — it’s referring to Obama, you know, our President.  Second of all, asserting that “Obama isn’t working” implies that “Obama’s economic policies aren’t working” — because the economy still sucks.

Third, if you want to throw out the the economy analogy, go for it.  Because Obama doesn’t work, at least not that hard, when you look at his numerous vacations and countless golf excursions.

When I first saw the banner this afternoon, the multiple meanings were clear: President Obama‘s policies aren’t working, the Obama presidency isn’t working, President Obama…isn’t working, as in, doing any work. That’s not a nice thing to say about any president, but like it or not, it becomes a more loaded accusation when leveled at our first black president.

Err, sorry Tommy Christopher, not that loaded.

That’s what happens when you have a media that hates Romney.  They’ll pick and skew until they can find some way to defame the obvious.
