Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, a Democrat, said we’ve got to give Asian store-owners the boot, because of their “dirty shops.”
Because he’s a black liberal he can get away with it — even though he’s a politician, who effectively just secured a third council term.
“We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses — those dirty shops,” Barry asserted, after securing the Democratic primary for the Ward 8 seat.
Barry added: “They ought to go. I’ll just say that right now, you know. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”
In effect, the ploy is to replace Asians with blacks. I think.
After returning to serve a fourth term as mayor, he was elected to the Ward 8 seat. And he has repeatedly run into drug and tax problems during his tenure in office.
We can only hope these voters are just misinformed.
